The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and Elite Gen 6 land as on-device AI gets good enough for offline features indie apps can sell.
Qualcomm announced the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 on September 22, 2026. Phone blogs will talk frames per second. Builders should talk which features never need a server.
On-device wins: keyboard privacy, camera filters, document crops, offline meeting transcription the user will not upload, a tiny classifier that used to cost you a fraction of a cent a thousand times a day.
On-device loses: multi-file repo agents, anything that must update weights weekly without an app-store wait, features that need a 1M-token manual in memory.
Ship one offline feature and price it. "Works on a plane" is a better landing-page line than "powered by seven models." It is also a compliance line: the bytes never left the handset.
Budget device fragmentation. Not every customer bought this year's flagship. Offer a cloud fallback and say so. The product is the workflow, not the chip press release.
